Mid-Atlantic Masters Ski Racing took on the Lower Colonel trail at Willard Mountain Ski Area on January 17 and 18, 2026, with a Slalom and GS weekend.

For the men, Giacomo Migliori swept the disciplines, Saturday’s slalom and Sunday’s 2x GS. The class M3 racer claimed fastest on the hill in all 6 runs of the 3 races. An impressive feat matched by Women’s Class F3 racer Andrea Levy who won all six runs in commanding fashion.

Willard Mountain Ski Area is a jewel hidden in the hills of Washington County north of Albany, NY. Having a race weekend during a major snowstorm made for an interesting weekend. My five free runs on Saturday were my reward for standing in steady snow for the races.

Shooting any distance up the hill was difficult through the falling snow, so I dropped back somewhat and went for the tight shots battling the gates with no skis showing. It is a different view of what is involved in slalom skiing. The intensity needed to coordinate turns and “gates in your face” shows in many of the expressions.

Sunday’s 2x GS race began with another four inches of fresh powder overnight. The GS course had to be reset from Upper Colonel and shortened down to the same start as the slalom. Too much fresh powder gave the steep safety issues. The course was reset and racing had a nice eerie look as the lightly falling snow and fog gave a dreamy background, perfect for making an athlete standout.
