KILLINGTON RECEIVES POSITIVE SNOW CONTROL FOR AUDI FIS SKI WORLD CUP RACES NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 1, 2024.
With this announcement, FIS (International Ski and Snowboard Federation), the governing body of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup, brings east coast favorites Mikaela Shiffrin and Paula Moltzan to Vermont’s Killington Resort for Thanksgiving weekend’s World Cup GS and slalom.
Mikaela Shiffrin won her 99th individual World Cup and 62nd career slalom victory in Gurgl, Austria, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, setting up the opportunity to win her 100th victory on home soil as she leads the Stifel U.S. Ski Team to Vermont’s Superstar trail. It’s a piece of history that every East Coast ski racer has ever dreamed of. And to have a Burke Academy alumni at the top is exhilarating. Prepare for a banner weekend.
The Killington Cup set a single-day attendance record in 2019, with 19,500 spectators for the giant slalom event, setting a record for a ski crowd in the United States. Now in its eighth year, Mikaela Shiffrin may bring an even larger crowd to town to witness history.
This will be the first time that her nemesis, Petra Velhova, will not challenge her on home turf. The Olympic slalom champion will miss the start of the Alpine skiing World Cup season as she works her way back from right knee surgery. Federica Brignone of Italy became the oldest woman to win an Alpine skiing World Cup race, overtaking leader Mikaela Shiffrin in the season opener in Sölden, Austria. 2021 slalom world champion Katharina Liensberger of Austria is currently in second place in the standings. The Killington Cup is up for grabs.
General admission tickets are available for $10 at killington.com/worldcup. A portion of all tickets will benefit the Killington World Cup Foundation, providing grants that support winter sports in the Northeast. Limited weekend and Sunday VIP Packages are available through the Killington World Cup Foundation at kwcfgivesback.org, gaining fans entry into the Great Gulf LiveKillington.com VIP Tent and premium seating. All Stifel Killington Cup spectators will need a ticket to gain entry to the event.
Preparation for the race continues through the event on Superstar with the snowmaking and grooming teams working in unison.
“It was a real battle with Mother Nature this year, but once again our superstar snowmaking team was able to fire up 125 snowmaking guns to lay down enough snow for a world-class show next weekend,” said Killington President and CEO Mike Solimano.
