What captured our eyes?
How about one of the tallest tripods I have ever seen displayed by PHOTOCLAM. From Korea, the company has been developing and producing precision products for more than 30 years. Not only were the carbon fiber tripods impressive, but the Pro Gold ball heads along with the telephoto Lens Support Brackets were like none I have seen before. Highly recommend that the serious photographer check them out. http://www.photoclam.com/
One of my goals at this year's show was to find the right photo book producer for my needs.
nphoto, one of the biggest printing labs in Europe out of Poland, with more than 400 employees and over a decade of experience in the photographic industry, surprised and impressed. The quality of their products were by far the best at the show. The only issue that I am having at this point is navigating their website. Their verification process for signing up for an account "We take great care to ensure that only professional photographers have full access to our website. Note: Verification may take up to 48h." So at this point I have not been able to fully go through their process for creation of a book. Be sure to bookmark our site and a full review will be done as soon as possible.
At the New Product Preview, I had met and liked Mimeo Photos. Unfortunately, I could not find their presence in the booths on the expo floor.
What I have learned since is that Mimeo's project extension for Photos enables Apple Mac users to create high quality photobooks, cards and calendars directly within the Apple ecosystem. After installing the Mimeo Photos project extension from the Mac App Store, customers can build their projects directly in Photos for macOS. Mimeo's products are crafted in their wholly owned, world class print production facilities, located in the United States.
Amber Concept has been mastering the art of paper, ink, printing, and packaging for more than 30 years. Our knowledge and experience have led us to create world-class products—visually stunning, unmatched quality, and eco-friendly.
They offered THE BIG BOOK. Size does matter, and in this case, bigger is always better. The 20 x 28 Big Book can be tall or wide, comes with a unique magazine blinding that can include up to 45 spreads, and both leatherette and linen cover materials are available to compliment the cover. Once I get on their website and run a book off I will expand on this as well!
PhotoPlus Expo kicked off with its annual Test Drive: New Product Preview + Networking Event on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, leading into the opening of the showroom floor on Thursday, October 26th.
Right off the bat there were products that made me want to visit manufacturers on Thursday. One of my goals for this year's show is to find a really good on-demand photo book printer. I have high standards and most of the books I have had made, I have not been happy enough to sell them. So we will see. Two manufacturers jumped out at the New Product Preview, Mimeo Photos and AMBER Album Supreme. Stay tuned for more on this page.

Today also features an amazing keynote speech for the first day.
On Thursday, October 26, three enormously successful women photographers will share their work, as well as some of the challenges each faced during their rise to the top of a field typically dominated by men. Sue Bryce, Barbara Davidson, and LaToya Ruby Frazier are three of the most successful photographers in the industry, regardless of gender, who will share their thoughts on making images that have personal meaning and universal relevance.
“We are very excited about this year’s lineup of keynote presentations and the inspiration each is expected to provide to attendees,” says Lauren Wendle, vice president and publisher, Photo+. “Education comes in all forms including personal experiences shared by our keynote speakers and we expect attendees to walk away with a clearer sense of how these experiences can be applied to their own business.”
For over 35 years, renowned street photographer Jamel Shabazz has been making images driven by a mission “to inspire peace and harmony.” In this keynote presentation on Friday, October 27, he’ll share the stories behind his most iconic photos, his enduring connection to the young people he photographed, and his commitment to sharing what was best in his community.
PhotoPlus Expo comes to a close on Saturday, October 28, but not before business entrepreneurs and tech experts Gary Vaynerchuk and Chase Jarvis discuss and help resolve “real life” business problems from audience participants and create an open dialogue in this unique and interactive keynote presentation.
Thursday, October 26: 12:30—1:30pm; Today’s Women in Photography and Film (Sponsored by Canon)
Sue Bryce, Barbara Davidson, and LaToya Ruby Frazier will share their work and explain how they found the subjects that have ignited their commitment and passion. These visual storytellers will share the challenges of working in a male-dominated field, what’s inspired their creativity and drive, and the personal experiences that motivate their concern for the subjects they photograph. Sponsored by Canon, this panel will highlight career-defining images and new work by each of the photographers and provide inspiration on making images that are both deeply personal and universally relevant.
