Weeks before the Winter Olympics in South Korea, Shiffrin scored a first-place finish so commanding, so seemingly effortless on the unforgivingly icy slope in the FIS World CACup slalom races in Killington, she brought the hometown crowd to deafening cheers.

The FIS Ski World Cup Giant Slalom race at Killington ended in light rain and tears for the local crowd as the US' Mikaela Shiffrin finished second behind Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany.

Dredging and Capping Pilot Study

The large crane pulled into the Fourt Street Basin of the Gowanus Canal in late Otober 2017 and is a part of the Dredging and Capping Pilot Study to rebuild the bulkheads along the canal with metal prior to the dredging of the canal.

Each year the Brooklyn Public Library, in collaboration with the Brooklyn Eagles, recognizes outstanding works of nonfiction and fiction with the Brooklyn Literary Prize given in the fall. This year's shortlist includes a novel, a book-length poem, a collection of short stories, and three works of nonfiction.
