His photographs of the Gowanus Canal show a superfund site in the heart of gentrified Brooklyn in a way that many have never seen. He began documenting the canal soon after he moved to the neighborhood in 1989. The canal of the 90s was a wasteland, visited by few and avoided by most. Today's development on the canal is staggering.
