11th Annual OHNY Weekend

BRIC; 647 Fulton St; Brooklyn, NY 11217

openhousenewyork inc. (OHNY) presents the 11th Annual OHNY Weekend, New York City’s foremost celebration of architecture and design. This citywide cultural event offers access to hundreds of sites, family and youth activities, behind-the-scenes tours, and on-site talks for an opportunity to meet the architects, designers, planners, engineers and historians whose contributions make this city such a special place to live, work, visit, and enjoy. Events are held all around the city, several within Brooklyn.
“Over the years, OHNY Weekend has become a beloved New York tradition – it’s the one weekend a year when thousands of New Yorkers and tourists alike are given entrée into places and spaces not generally open to the public,” says Gregory Wessner, executive director of OHNY. “This Weekend is gearing up to be one of the most exciting and eclectic in the history of the organization.”
OHNY sites include:
- A visit to BRIC Arts | Media House, designed by Leeser Architecture and opening this October in the cultural hub of Downtown Brooklyn in the historic Strand Theater and which will include a new performance space, contemporary art gallery, artist workspace, and television and media production studios.
- Access to the Citi Bike Warehouse housed beneath the Gowanus Expressway where bikes are maintained and repaired.
- A rare tour of the Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass in Long Island City, a large, one-of-a-kind repository of sheet and pressed glass used by Tiffany Studios.

OHNY is also reprising its collaboration with Interior Design magazine with the Designers’ Own Homes Tours that showcase homes designed by contemporary architects and interior designers, curated by the editors of the magazine. They include the Slade Residence, the David Ling Architect Duplex, the Yabu Pushelberg Residence, the Gwathmey Siegel Architects Apartment, and the Kushner Studios House.
In addition, the 2013 OHNY Weekend is opening the doors of private residences ranging from historic to contemporary, including a newly restored 1937 Art Deco apartment complete with period furnishings in Pelham Parkway (Bronx); LOT-EK’s Morton Loft (Manhattan); the Energy Star-rated TroutHouse (Brooklyn); and noroof’s Pushmi-Pullyu House (Brooklyn).
