Books Are Magic Presents: John Grisham, Amor Towles, and Emma Straub

St Ann's Church | Brooklyn Heights

Books Are Magic presents a special celebration of New York Times #1 bestselling author John Grisham's new novel, THE ROOSTER BAR, on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at 7:00pm at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn Heights.

Grisham will lead a discussion with Amor Towles, bestselling author of THE RULES OF CIVILITY and A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW, and Books Are Magic's own Emma Straub.

THE ROOSTER BAR is John Grisham's latest legal thriller and takes readers inside a law firm on shaky ground; Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Amor Towles' first novel, Rules of Civility, published in 2011, was a New York Times bestseller and was named by The Wall Street Journal as one of the best books of 2011. His second novel, A Gentleman in Moscow, published in 2016, was also a New York Times bestseller and was named as one of the best books of 2016 by many publications. Both novels have been translated into over fifteen languages.

Emma Straub is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Modern Lovers, The Vacationers and Laura Lamont’s Life in Pictures, and the short story collection Other People We Married. Her fiction and nonfiction have been published in Vogue, New York Magazine, Tin House, The New York Times, Good Housekeeping, and the The Paris Review Daily. She is a contributing writer to Rookie and opened Books Are Magic with her husband in May of 2017.
