Can Jaden Smith skateboard?

House of Vans | Greenpoint

Rooftop Films brings a very special live performance by Jaden Smith to the House of Vans in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, on July 30, 2018, following the screening of Crystal Moselle's Skate Kitchen.

Skate Kitchen is the narrative debut feature film by Crystal Moselle, whose documentary feature The Wolfpack screened with Rooftop Films in 2015. The director, cast, and crew will participate in a Q & A following the screening prior to Smith's performance.

Inspired by and starring a real-life, all-girl skate crew, the film stars Rachelle Vinberg as a teenager whose passion for skating brings her to the Lower East Side. Camille, an introverted teenage skateboarder (Vinberg) from Long Island, meets and befriends an all-girl, New York City-based skateboarding crew called Skate Kitchen. She falls in with the in-crowd, has a falling-out with her mother, and falls for a mysterious skateboarder guy (Jaden Smith), but a relationship with him proves to be trickier to navigate than a kickflip. Writer/director Crystal Moselle immersed herself in the lives of the skater girls and worked closely with them, resulting in the film's authenticity, which combines poetic, atmospheric filmmaking and hypnotic skating sequences. "Skate Kitchen" precisely captures the experience of women in male-dominated spaces and tells a story of a girl who learns the importance of camaraderie and self-discovery.

The director, cast and crew will participate in a Q&A after the film, followed by a live musical performance by recording superstar Jaden Smith, whose latest album of remixes was released on Monday exclusively on his Instagram account.

Admission to both events is free with RSVP online at

Skate Kitchen will be released in theaters by Magnolia Pictures on August 10th.
